'Katrina Moinet’s State of the Nations is a handbook for the ongoing work of unlearning centuries of systemic gaslighting from patriarchal and colonialist powers, billionaires and technocrats. In a culture pushing us ever closer to becoming automatons, Moinet’s playful, inventive and tessellatory poetics gives us the tools to break our programming. The effect is incendiary as a fifties housewife, casually setting the house on fire as she leaves the kitchen and enters the world.'

– Amy Acre, author of Mothersong, and Editor, Bad Betty Press

‘Katrina Moinet’s State of the Nations is a fearless and inventive collection that charts the body as battleground and beacon, navigates silence and spectacle, and holds up to the light the things we too often turn away from uncomfortably – from the changing female body to the brutalities of war. Moinet reminds us that form is not just structure but resistance, and that to name a thing – pain, power, politics – is to begin to survive it. These are poems that sing even as they burn.’

– Natalie Ann Holborow, author of Little Universe

‘Katrina Moinet is a people’s poet. She writes poems that unflinchingly engage with things that matter, and by matter I mean have serious gravity: sexual assault, genocide, misogyny, climate crisis and other weighty concerns of everyday working people each take turns upon the page. The result is State of the Nations, a collection that puts pop culture in conversation with populism, and never fails to interrogate what it means to be a person confronting a politics that has failed us, from the UK to the USA.’

– Caleb Nichols, Poet Laureate of San Luis Obispo, California

‘In State of the Nations, Katrina Moinet delivers some of her most musical and experimental work to date. Acutely self-aware and brimming with double-edged wit, these voice-driven poems dance between irony and tenderness, offering an unsettling conspectus of contemporary life. The result is a brave and vital collection that asks what it means to stay human.’

– CJ Wagstaff, poet, reviewer, musician

State of the Nations is a sharp, thoughtful collection that moves easily between political, cultural, and deeply personal landscapes. Moinet writes with a mix of anger, humor, and vulnerability. Some poems come at you head-on; others linger quietly and let their meaning unfold. Moinet has an eye for small, telling details and the way those moments open into larger questions about power, grief, and belonging. This searing collection invites the reader to look more closely at the world.’

– Oormila V. Prahlad, author of Patchwork Fugue
